Baby showers for men - a new trend?
Men are certainly justified in complaining that women get to enjoy the lion's share of the fun when it comes to baby keepsake gifts and showers - however, could this be changing?
Doug Healy of Milwaukee told Newsradio 620 WTMJ that he decided to throw a "daddy shower" after realising it would be a good reason to get together with his college friends.
Although he admitted that it was not a shower in a traditional sense - for example, there probably were not any baby albums on display - he suggested that it could be indicative of a larger trend of men becoming more comfortable with traditionally female roles.
Professor of Sociology at Marquette University Roberta Coles commented on the suggestion, telling the news provider: "Men are thinking, 'If I'm going to take on the responsibility
I might as well get this reward of the gifts and the fun.'"
Meanwhile, fathers-to-be who do not want to take part in a men-only affair may want to ask their partners if they can join in on the girls' party - many contemporary showers welcome both genders.
