Couple's wedding day reward: their first kiss
In contemporary times, it is not unusual for a couple to tie the knot after they have already been living together for years - but at least one pair has bucked this trend by choosing to wait until their wedding day for their first kiss.
Claudaniel Fabien and Melody LaLuz had more than wedding photography and cake to look forward to when they walked down the aisle last weekend, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
After they were pronounced husband and wife, 30-year-old Fabien and 28-year-old LaLuz met each other's lips for the first time.
The reason for the wait? Both the bride and groom are employed as abstinence educators - and LaLuz had previously taken a vow not to start dating until June 2007.
Even during their courtship, she said they chose to postpone kissing on the lips to give the wedding planning a sense of anticipation.
"It feels like such a gift. When you value a kiss, it becomes something of worth," she told the news provider.
According to some historians, including a kiss near the end of a wedding ceremony is a tradition that most likely originated with the Romans.
