Graduation party planning

As the economy slows, families are making cuts in order to afford particular party ideas for their loved ones graduations, it has been reported.

Pennsylvania newspaper the Times Leader stated that some families are even foregoing a vacation to ensure their party planning goes to plan.

George Blom of Bakery Delite told the publication that the main feature that parents will not cut costs on with a graduation party is the cake.

"I've done graduation cakes that are fancier than some wedding cakes," he claimed. "People are cutting back a little bit … but they still tend to spend more on the cake since it is a centerpiece."

However, decorations can range from simple to extravagant when it comes to graduation parties, the newspaper commented.

Sales of balloons, flowers, tableware and novelty items such as photo albums for the event have all increased before June, said Party City manager Kelly Flannery.

According to the National Retail Federation, Americans were predicted to spend about $4.5 billion collectively on graduation presents last year.ADNFCR-1501-ID-18633615-ADNFCR
