Have a magical winter wedding

It's no secret in the wedding world that spring and summer are the most popular times of year to get hitched. Many future brides dream about their wedding day being warm and sunny without a cloud in the sky. For others however, getting married in a winter wonderland may be the perfect backdrop for pictures in their wedding album.

There are some distinct advantages to having a winter wedding. Since it is considered off-season, many things from the venue to the caterer may be less expensive than in the spring/summertime. You may even be able to have your wedding on the date you want, since there tend to be fewer nuptials scheduled in the winter.

Winter weddings also offer the opportunity to showcase some unique wedding ideas. For lovers of the countryside, having a wedding in a quaint inn can feel intimate and cozy on a cold winter's day. Rather than riding a limo, the bridal party may be able to arrive to the wedding in a horse drawn sleigh.

Bold colors for winter wedding dresses add a festive flare to the event. Royal blue, emerald green or ruby red can really sparkle. For those looking for something more subtle, chocolate brown, eggplant or even black bring a tone of formality to the event. Fur trimmed shawls or fur muffs can be elegant accessories for those chilly moments outdoors snapping pictures for the wedding photo album.

While roses and tulips always look beautiful at a wedding, it may be cheaper to buy flowers that are in season. Seasonal winter flowers include amaryllis and cymbidium orchids as well as holly and ivy for greens.

Traditional roasts make nice hearty fare for winter wedding dinners. Roast beef, turkey or lamb can be tasty main courses. Special wintery drinks can include white chocolate hot chocolate or an eggnog punch.

An ice sculpture may make an eye catching center piece for the head table. Using crystals and sparkly gems and velvet ribbons to accentuate the venue can add an elegant touch of class.
