Insurance 'becoming a regular aspect of wedding planning'

It may not be the most romantic part of wedding planning, but more couples are choosing to take out insurance for their big day, according to reports.

Brigitt Whitescarver of Portland's Gales Creek Insurance Services told kgw.com that she has seen a fourfold rise in the number of couples opting for cover.

"It has really been a big focus for the last two to three years," she remarked, explaining that property damage and accidents are two of the most common claims.

Wedding liability insurance can help protect people against such incidents, while wedding cancellation insurance will compensate people in the case of extreme weather, vendors that do not deliver or last-minute military duty.

With so many aspects of wedding planning to think about - from booking venues to arranging the wedding photography - it is no wonder that more people are seeking peace of mind.

Couples spent an average of $28,732 to tie the knot in 2007, according to data from the Wedding Report.
