Kids' birthday parties: Are weekdays better?

When party planning for your child's birthday, it may be difficult to find a free Saturday on which to hold the festivities.

So, why not have the bash midweek instead? According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, more parents are choosing to throw kids' parties on Mondays through Thursdays.

One obvious benefit cited by party professionals and parents alike is that rented venues can be substantially cheaper on weeknights than during weekend affairs.

Some people also say they choose a midweek date because they prefer to keep weekends free for family activities. Meanwhile, the kids themselves may appreciate the novelty of doing something fun and unusual on a school night, the article suggests.

Lisa Kothari, who has published a book on children's party planning, told the news provider that scheduling weeknight parties are part of a trend that includes scaling back on over-the-top events and returning to cozy get-togethers.

"It's bringing us back to a simpler time, but at the same time the celebrations are still wonderful," she explained. "The competition of wanting to get people to come to your party is not as great."
