Nature-inspired baby names in honor of Earth Day

Earth Day, which took place on April 22nd, was the perfect opportunity for parents to take steps to help preserve the planet for their children.

BabyNames.com suggests that the ultimate eco-friendly baby keepsake may just be a nature-inspired moniker.

It lists the top "green" names given to babies, compiled from its 300,000-member database.

River, Avani, Saffron, Jade, Storm and Ivy comprise the top five, followed by Ivy, Autumn, Aurora, Skye and Sage.

Parents who choose these names for their offspring may want to transfer the theme into the baby album, with decorative touches inspired by nature.

Jennifer Moss, founder of BabyNames.com, said that people seem more likely to bestow these type of names on girls rather than boys.

"We believe it's because the earth itself is identified with the female gender," she explained.

One celebrity who has chosen a nature-inspired baby name is Nicole Ritchie, whose daughter's middle name is "Winter".
