Planning a baby shower, part 2: Decorations
The shower invitations are out and you've set up the guestlist. Now's the time to get creative and plan decorations and cute party favors. Themed showers are always fun. If you know the baby's gender, you can plan to decorate in either shades of pink for a girl or blue for a boy. Pick up some helium balloons, baby-themed confetti and even blue or pink candies to place in dishes around the room.
Since you're also honoring mom, you can choose a theme for her. Focus on her interests or favorite colors. You could also enlarge pictures of the expectant parent when she was a child, and display those throughout the space.
A good centerpiece is eye-catching and fun. Some make "diaper cakes" and attach gifts to diapers rolled into a cake. Others opt for an edible cake, again, in a sweet newborn theme. Ducks, bootees and rattles are just a few ideas.
Party favors should reflect the theme, but also be inexpensive. Bake baby-themed cookies and wrap in pretty cellophane bags, or give guests little bottles filled with mini chocolates to take home.
