Setting a Christmas table in style

Impress your holiday guests with a sensationally set dinner table – remember, the key is in the details!

Begin your party planning well in advance of the event so you have plenty of time to find all of the materials without having to run around at the last minute. Start by planning the colors to use for your holiday theme. Some people are partial to the traditional Christmas colors of red, green, gold, silver and white, but if you prefer to think a little outside of the box, different hues of blue can inspire a wintery theme.

Buy table cloths and napkins in coordinating colors. To jazz up the napkins at their place settings, buy or make a napkin ring. A cost effective idea is to tie a colorful ribbon around the napkin and add a sprig of holly. It might also look interesting to have napkins in alternating colors at the place settings.

If it is a large gathering, instead of place cards for seating, write each guest's name in glitter on a mini stocking. Fill the stocking with chocolates or mini candy canes for them to take home as a party favor.

For a centerpiece, a straight strip of garland interspersed with votive candles in the theme colors and berries and pinecones may be quite eye catching.
