University course promises wedding ideas galore

A Virginia college has become the first university to offer a course in which students can learn the fundamentals of wedding planning and get credit for it.

The School of Recreation, Health and Tourism at George Mason University offers the distinctive class, taught by former wedding planner Professor Maggie Daniels, ABC News reports.

Music, lighting, wedding photography and flowers are among the topics covered, while project management, communication and budgeting are placed at the forefront of skills students are expected to develop.

Student Amir Edjali told the news provider that the desire to be "hands on" while designing his own future nuptials inspired him to take the course.

"It's interesting because you can apply it to both project management in a technology field [and] wedding planning," he remarked.

Ms Daniels confirmed that more grooms are getting involved in organising wedding details, which could range from choosing colors to selecting the photo albums.

The average age of a groom in the US is 28, according to the Wedding Report.
